An Interview with Jay4L

Dami: How would you describe your sound?

Jay4L: Fast, modern, highly produced, and catchy.

Dami: Do you remember the first song you ever wrote or performed?

Jay4L: It was called designr, which was made on bandlab through a chromebook, and a $80 dollar microphone nailed into the wall.

Dami: How was designr? What was the sound like?

Jay4L: Much like what I make now, just with a much less developed voice and more melodic, with terrible producing.

Dami: How much would you say you’ve grown as an artist since then?

Jay4L: A lot. From my voice to how well it is produced as a song.

Dami: Would you say there are any non musical influences that impact your sound or music and what are they?

Jay4L: I originally started making music from class projects, where making a song about a subject was an option, which I’d say is one of the things that influenced me to even start making music.

Dami: How is it like growing up in a family of artists? Did they influence your sound in any way?

Jay4L: I kind of made different sounds along the way, so I wouldn't say they influenced me too much. Having a family of artists made it easy to learn a lot about music in general.

Dami: What is your creative process like?

Jay4L: I usually listen to music beforehand to find inspiration on a certain style, then practice my lyrics on a beat to find a flow. I used to write my lyrics down in notes, but after making more music, I’ve gotten able to freestyle most of my songs.

Dami: Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics?

Jay4L: From everywhere but the same style of music I make, that way I can make something closer to my own sound.

Dami: You just dropped a new single, can you tell us about it?

Jay4L: I wanted to drop a single that contrasted the one before, being more of an energetic and faster sounding song. i made the song like in 35 minutes.

Dami: How do you overcome writers block?

Jay4L: I usually come up with a completely different flow to open the opportunity for different lyrics.

Dami: What’s been the biggest challenge of being an artist?

Jay4L: Definitely motivation. Without motivation, it’s hard to make good music.

Dami: How do you cope with that then?

Jay4L: I take a short break and listen to more music during that break, allowing me to get my mindset right.

Dami: What are you currently working on?

Jay4L: A larger project, and I’m planning on making many different sounds.

Dami: Is there a dream collaboration you’ll love to have on the project?

Jay4L: xaviersobased would be pretty lit on a collab.

Dami: Where do you see yourself and your music five years from now?

Jay4L: Probably making a different style of music and being a little bigger than I am now.
