An Interview with 4knova

Dami: What inspired you to make music professionally?

4knova: I was always good a rhyming at a young age, and when I got older, I was introduced into hip hop from my older cousin, and that was around the same time she introduced me to an app T-Pain came out with where you could make songs using his autotune effect, and from there I fell in love with making music.

Dami: How much would you say you’ve grown since then?

4knova: I’ve grown a lot through personal experience, culture and also trying to find my sound with music of who I am as a person, and with everything it shaped me to who I am today and I feel like you’re always growing as the years pass.

Dami: And have you discovered who you are as a person?

4knova: I feel like I will always discover things about myself so I’m never content about myself, which I feel is good at times because it keeps me growing and learning more about myself.

Dami: How would you describe your sound?

4knova: I can’t really explain it since I’m always trying different things, but definitely I could say is when the sun comes down, it hits a little different.

Dami: Who were your biggest musical influences growing up?

4knova: My biggest influences are definitely Shakira, T-Pain, a band called Escape the Fate, Kid Cudi & George Wassouf.

Dami: Are there any non-musical influences that impact your art?

4knova: if we talking non-musical, definitely gotta say Anthony Bourdain, Larry Clark, Ryan Gosling, Karim Rashid & Zyzz.

Dami: Can you walk us through your songwriting process?

4knova: Sometimes I have the song playing in a loop, and I just catch melodies and certain words to see what kind of structure and sound I want to approach and a lot of the times I write my lyrics while driving because for some reason while I’m moving, it’s easier for me to think of lyrics.

Dami: Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics?

4knova: I think if the beat is hard af then it makes it so easy to come up with something, and also through life experiences; it makes it easier to find a subject matter.

Dami: You just dropped a new single titled “18weeks”. Can you tell us more about it?

4knova: Yeah. It’s a song I worked on with my engineer “Yeah Josh” where we wanted to do a uptempo energetic jersey club style song, and once I heard the sample and the way the beat dropped I already know this is one of them ones.

Dami: What’s the subject matter of the single?

4knova: Me trying to make it into the city and mfs having envy and jealousy towards me, and just me depending on one person to be there for me whenever things get crazy.

Dami: What’s been the biggest challenge of being a musician?

4knova: I think the biggest challenge is being consistent because there’s a lot of life shit that I go through and I’m sacrificing a lot for this dream that is not guaranteed.

Dami: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

4knova: I see myself as one of the greatest musical artist of this generation.
