Chris McLaughlin, an artist and producer based in Los Angeles, is known for his experimental electronic solo project called Cigar Cigarette. His music is a fusion of avant-garde dance and psychedelic genres, resulting in a synth-driven EBM sound that is both futuristic and referential. Cigar Cigarette's upcoming EP, Natural History, is a natural progression of his sonic experimentation, offering a sonically rich experience to the listeners.

On the their new single, "Probes," opaque rhythmic elements are braced by contributing vocals from the Dirty Projectors’ Angel Deradoorian; regarding the lyrics of the song, McLaughlin notes:

“I wrote the lyrics to Probes after waking up from a nightmare, but I suppose it sounds like a love song. Angel Deradoorian (Deradoorian, Dirty Projectors, Decisive Pink) sang where the song crescendos one afternoon in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I had been living with the music for a while, but nothing worked lyrically until I realized it needed to be two songs simultaneously."

With his forthcoming EP to be released, he expands his cosmic sonic terrain and rich, transformative sound while maintaining his gritty, art punk flourishes. The result is equal parts distorted guitar amplifications and ominous synthesizer dramatics, with melodies overlaid on Jersey club-influenced beats.
