Big Snow and SlatterHouse Unite on Conceptual EP Five Sketches
Winnipeg rapper, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Big Snow has teamed up with Pittsburgh producer SlatterHouse for Five Sketches, a concept-driven EP that blends introspective songwriting with cinematic production.
The idea for Five Sketches was born in 2022, when Big Snow left a Chuck E. Cheese’s in Regina with five photo booth “sketches.” Each image sparked the concept of a five-track project, with every “sketch” representing a different story and emotion. Over the course of 2024 and 2025, the idea took shape as SlatterHouse supplied beats that fused trap and rap foundations with electronic and cinematic textures.
Throughout the EP, Big Snow draws from personal experiences of pressure, perseverance, and connection. The opening track, “Sketch No. 1 (A Devious Mind),” sets a determined tone, while the standout single “Sketch No. 2 (Got You When You’re Down)” highlights his storytelling prowess. Winnipeg collaborators Trouble Child (DREWtheArtist), Jayedon xp, and Isxxc Jxmes lend verses that add depth and contrast, particularly on “New Day” and “Confidence Mask.”
Closing with “Sketch No. 5 (We All Need Somebody),” Big Snow delivers a heartfelt call for unity — a fitting end to a project born from creative curiosity and emotional honesty. Five Sketches cements both Big Snow and SlatterHouse as versatile voices connecting scenes and sounds across borders.
